Don’t get it wrong. It is a shortcut to marry an American, get green card, and ultimately assimilate. But what I want to share with you here is to assimilate into American culture. A Rider Master’s Degree may be the most valuable reason for coming here, but you have to learn more. As we all know, the world is getting smaller thanks to the invention of the Internet; however, face-to-face communication with Americans is really important in order to realize cultural differences. That is, reading articles about cultural differences is helpful, but communicating with people is more effective. Therefore, you should try to make American friends, especially with professors. The “Chinese group” is easy to communicate with, but you may miss the opportunity to know other cultures.
