Course Selection

Before you come to Rider, all the courses for spring semester are already registered by Jaime Smith Hall, who is the academic coordinator in Dean’s office. However, you can drop or change classes during the first week of spring semester. What you need to do is sending your request to Ms. Hall. She will send you a list of elective courses and made change to your schedule according to your email. At the end of spring semester, you will have to opportunity to select courses for the Fall Semester. The list of elective courses will be emailed to your Rider email by Jaime Smith Hall. After being accepted by the master program, the graduate academic coordinator in Dean’s Office, Heather McMichael will be in charge of your course selection and registration.

Undergraduate

During the first semester, all the courses you are going to take are required and would have been registered by Jaime Smith Hall, whose office is at SWG 214. She works as an academic coordinator in Dean’s office. Fortunately, there are some elective courses related to business study which you can choose for - the fall semester. On the other hand, some courses are still mandatory and you are required to take those courses to gain enough credits. The list of elective courses will be E-mailed to your email at Rider by Jaime Smith Hall. The list of course schedule which covers more detailed information like class time, place of teaching and faculties of the course is also available at the OBA (Office of Business Administration) SWG 214). In addition, the course schedule is also available on the Rider website (https://www.rider.edu/academics/academic-support-resources/registrar/course-schedule-and-registration-information ).

How to choose a course

Personal interest and future orientation: Choose the course that really draws your interest. Interest is the best motivation for learning. If you like that course, you would be willing to spend more time and are more likely to learn it well. Also, choose the course towards your future planning of career.

Time schedule: Each course is required to take for about three hours each week. Starting from the fall semester, you can choose the course of your own interest, time schedule and future orientation. Night class can be finished in one shot, meaning the class will continue run for three hours each time. Daytime class will be allocated to 2 to 3 shorter sessions per week. The duration of one Daytime class is normally 1 or 1 and half hours. Choose a section that most fits your schedule. A good choice of time contributes to half of your success. You can manage your time wisely in order to build a suitable schedule to maximize your study and work efficiency, especially say you have part-time job positions on campus.

Instructor: The instructor is really an important part of a course, as he is one to mark your final grades (joking). Different instructors have different teaching styles and philosophies. There is this website (www.ratemyprofessors.com ) that contains the information for you to know more about professors. You can use it as a reference to help you choose a professor whose teaching style is most suitable for you.

Besides, CBA faculty information is available on Rider Website https://www.rider.edu/academics/colleges-schools/college-business-administration/cba-faculty, which is a channel for you to get more information about the instructors at CBA. Feel free to contact them with questions about the programs, majors or their backgrounds. Get to know the professor even before you sit in the class is always a good idea.
